Education is a Priority at Riverstone Master-Planned Community

March 5, 2016

Madera, CA - The developers behind the upcoming Madera County master-planned community of Riverstone are committed to creating the Central Valley’s best new place to call home. A quality education for the community’s youngest residents is a major part of the plan.

“Of all the things we’re doing at Riverstone, nurturing our future generations for academic success is clearly one of the most important,” says Riverstone’s Tim Jones. “Our local school district is committed to developing the best and brightest students. It’s a dedication to excellence we intend to continue.”

Teachers and school district officials celebrate the ribbon-cutting ceremony for a brand-new playground at Sierra View Elementary. A $10,000 donation from the owners of Riverstone Farms, an affiliate of Riverstone Development, contributed towards the new playground’s construction costs.
A California Distinguished School for 2009, Ranchos Middle School is known for academic and sports excellence. The school’s 8th graders won first place overall two years in a row in the Academic Pentathlon, and last year the girls’ soccer team had another undefeated season and WSAL championship.

As part of the award-winning Golden Valley Unified School District, Riverstone’s anticipated on-site schools are planned to combine expert instruction and innovative technology to equip students for bright futures. With nine schools serving nearly 2,000 students, Golden Valley Unified has had its share of success and accolades. The district’s Liberty High School, for instance, boasts a graduation rate of 96.18%, which is the highest graduation rate in the region. Golden Valley Unified also maintains a better-than-average student-teacher ratio of 24:1, and was named a Silver Award recipient for Best High Schools from U.S. News & World Report.

Also a California Distinguished School for 2009, Liberty High School offers nine Advanced Placement classes, and 85% of its students are involved in extra or co-curricular activities. With the one-to-one mobile device program currently available for the school’s 9th- 12th graders, students utilize cutting-edge 10.1 Samsung Note Tablets and Chromebooks both in the classroom and at home—giving teachers the ability to make learning more immersive and participatory.

A strong athletics program is also synonymous with Liberty High School, with league, division and valley championships in various sports.

Other district standouts include Webster Elementary and Sierra View Elementary, two schools that have both garnered California Distinguished School honors.

Situated in the heart of the region’s path of growth, the 2,000-acre new-home community of Riverstone will be a celebration of California living where people of every generation can enjoy the relaxed and informal spirit of the Golden State. When complete, Riverstone will total approximately 6,578 single-family, attached and multi-family homes, as well as commercial and mixed-use space including office, service and retail. Amenities at Riverstone are anticipated to include walkable neighborhoods with 200 acres of public and private parks and open space reserves, an extensive trail network, on-site schools, and a nearby stretch of the San Joaquin River and adjacent lake. Riverstone’s first phase of homes is anticipated to be ready for occupancy this Fall. Interested homebuyers are encouraged to add their name to the Interest List at www.RiverstoneCA.com.

Riverstone recently donated $10,000 to Sierra View Elementary for construction of the school’s new playground, which will be named after Riverstone Farms, a proposed commercial farm completely separate but adjacent to the Riverstone community. Although not open to the public, Riverstone Farms is anticipated to host “open farm” events throughout the year exclusively for the community’s residents.

Anchored right in the heart of Riverstone’s first district, named the Lodge District, will be “The Lodge” itself, a community clubhouse in a class all its own. A contemporary, agrarian-influenced structure, The Lodge at Riverstone will combine the rusticity of farm with the magnificence of the West’s National Park lodges of yesteryear—revealing elements such as open exposed beams, grand windows for inspired views, and authentic building materials that are permanent and lasting. The grand venue is anticipated to offer a state-of-the-art fitness center, flexible spaces for gatherings and events, a Gear Barn providing recreational equipment, and an outdoor terrace with a resort-style pool, spa, cabanas and a refreshments bar.
