Home of Career-Minded Kids

Riverstone belongs to the award-winning Golden Valley Unified School District, and for many homeowners, this fact is one of the primary reasons why they decided to call the community home. This past August gave the education-minded parents at Riverstone even more to smile about with the groundbreaking of The Liberty High School Engineering Agri-Science & Farming (LEAF) Academy.

Liberty High School’s LEAF Academy will be a state-of-the-art Career Technical Education facility that will equip Riverstone’s high-school-aged residents for future careers within the Agriculture Sciences industry.
Riverstone’s future elementary school is planned to feature 21st century classrooms, a state-of-the-art Library/Media Center, a dedicated music room, outdoor learning spaces, a large outdoor amphitheater and a dynamic sports complex.

A result of public/private partnerships, the LEAF Academy is the newest state-of-the-art educational and research facility dedicated to the development of technologies within the Agriculture Sciences Industry. The innovative facility, which will be located just minutes away from Riverstone, will provide students access to 21st Century technologies within the career pathways it serves. LEAF itself is a living laboratory, allowing for flexibility and adaptation to continually changing programs and curriculum.

“This is simply another golden moment for Golden Valley Unified,” said Riverstone’s Tim Jones. “Access to a quality education in a safe, nurturing environment has always been a top priority for us, and LEAF will undoubtedly offer the forward-thinking educational opportunities we’ve had in mind for our homeowner families since day one.”

As a Career Technical Education facility, LEAF will equip Riverstone’s high-school-aged residents for future careers within the Agriculture Sciences industry—everything from Environmental Engineering, Water Technologies and Machine and Forming Technologies, to Veterinary Sciences, Ornamental Horticulture and Farm to Table.

Career Technical Education (CTE) provides students of all ages with the academic and technical skills, knowledge and training necessary to succeed in future careers and to become lifelong learners. CTE prepares learners for the world of work by introducing them to workplace competencies, and makes academic content accessible to students by providing it in a hands-on context. In fact, the high school graduation rate for CTE concentrators is about 90%, which is 15 percentage points higher than the national average. Today, in total, roughly 12.5 million high school and college students are enrolled in Career Technical Education across the nation.

In addition to the future LEAF Academy at Liberty High School, a brand-new elementary school is coming to Riverstone’s Lodge District residential neighborhood. Belonging to the GVUSD and anticipated to open in time for the 2021 school year, the innovative campus—which will be within walking and biking distance from Riverstone’s new homes—is planned to feature tech-forward 21st century classrooms, a state-of-the-art Library/Media Center, a dedicated music room, outdoor learning spaces, a large outdoor amphitheater and a dynamic sports complex.

A school district known for its technological innovation, Golden Valley Unified comprises nine schools serving nearly 2,000 students. The district maintains an exceptional student-teacher ratio of 24:1, and was named a Silver Award recipient for Best High Schools from U.S. News & World Report.

Situated in the heart of the region’s path of growth, Riverstone—when complete—will total approximately 6,578 single-family, attached and multi-family homes, as well as commercial and mixed-use space including office, service and retail. Amenities at Riverstone are anticipated to include walkable neighborhoods, parks and open space, multiple community clubhouses, hiking and biking trails, a dog park, a community farm, historic olive and citrus groves, a sustainable water supply, and on-site schools belonging to the award-winning Golden Valley Unified School District.
