Another Great Year for Golden Valley USD

June 9, 2019

The 2,000-acre master-planned community of Riverstone offers today’s homebuyers many ways to “grow a great family”—including an award-winning school district. Riverstone belongs to Golden Valley Unified, one of the highest performing school districts in the Central Valley. Comprising nine schools serving nearly 2,000 students, Golden Valley USD maintains an exceptional student-teacher ratio of 24:1, and was named a Silver Award recipient for Best High Schools from U.S. News & World Report.

Liberty High School’s baseball team—the Liberty Hawks—celebrated its Division V Section Championship this spring.
Also celebrating its Division V Section Championship for 2018 is Liberty High School’s Girls cross-country team.

“We couldn’t be more fortunate to have such an extraordinary team of teachers, coaches and administrative staff committed to academic and athletic excellence,” said Riverstone’s Tim Jones. “For us, the top-notch education that Golden Valley provides in a safe, collaborative and nurturing environment is absolutely crucial in making a positive impact in the lives of our community’s youth.”

The district’s Liberty High School, named a California Distinguished School for 2009, boasts a graduation rate of 96.18%, which is the highest graduation rate in the region. For Liberty High’s 2019 Graduating class, a total of 134 seniors graduated including 18 Valedictorians (students with a total weighted GPA of 4.0 or higher), and one Salutatorian—the student with the next highest GPA. In addition, there were 22 Honor Medal recipients.

Liberty High’s 2019 Graduating Seniors will soon be pursuing a wide range of higher education opportunities, from four-year universities and community colleges to military and technical schools.

Not to be outdone by academics alone, Liberty High School is also recognized for its strong athletics program. During the 2018-19 school year, Liberty High teams won multiple league championships in Varsity Football, Wrestling, Softball, Girls Soccer and more—and the Girls Cross Country, Boys Baseball and Boys Basketball teams all won Division V CIF Section Championships.

Liberty High’s mission is to provide a rigorous and relevant education that prepares all students for post-graduation goals, empowering them to become productive citizens. Helping to achieve this goal are Liberty’s 12 AP Classes: AP English Language, English Literature, AP European History, AP US History, AP Government, AP Physics, AP Biology, AP Computer Science, AP Calculus AB & BC, AP Seminar and AP Research (2020-2021 School Year).

Plans are being finalized for future expansion of Agriculture and Career Technical Education opportunities with the construction of a state-of-the-art Liberty High School Engineering, Agri-Science and Farming Academy (LEAF). Featuring animal pens, barns and an animal show pavilion, the facility will support planned career pathways in Agriculture, Natural Resources, Manufacturing and Product Development.

Also at Liberty High School are a number of clubs offering students a wide range of valuable experiences. Student members of the Key Club, for instance, participated in building floats for the 2018 Rose Bowl Parade, and the Multicultural Club celebrated Black History by touring the African American Historical and Cultural Museum of San Joaquin Valley.

The opportunity for a Golden Valley USD education will soon be available within Riverstone’s Lodge District residential neighborhood with the addition of a brand-new elementary school. Anticipated to open in time for the 2021 school year, the innovative campus—which will be within walking and biking distance from Riverstone’s new homes—is planned to feature tech-forward 21st century classrooms, a state-of-the-art Library/Media Center, a dedicated music room, outdoor learning spaces, a large outdoor amphitheater and a dynamic sports complex.

Situated in the heart of the region’s path of growth, Riverstone—when complete—will total approximately 6,578 single-family, attached and multi-family homes, as well as commercial and mixed-use space including office, service and retail. Amenities at Riverstone are anticipated to include walkable neighborhoods, parks and open space, multiple community clubhouses, hiking and biking trails, a dog park, a community farm, historic olive and citrus groves, a sustainable water supply, and on-site schools belonging to the award-winning Golden Valley Unified School District.
